Tides are actually long-period waves that move throughout our oceans in response to the gravitational pull of the sun and the moon on the earth. The difference in height between the low tide and high tide is called the tidal range. The period between high tide and low tide is about 6 hours, and the best way to experience the tides is to visit the same place during high and low tide.

Checking out the Bay of Fundy tides, along with the amazing sunsets, was a highlight of our trip to Fundy National Park, and one of the benefits of camping. Fundy National Park is open year-round, but facilities are generally open from mid-May until mid-October each year.

What we loved about Point Wolfe Campground: It was very quiet and you could walk from the campground to several trails and Point Wolfe Beach, which had some of the best sunsets of our trip!

We spent lots of time exploring here. Shiphaven Trail — A leisurely walk less than a mile round trip through the forest and along a boardwalk from the campground to the covered bridge. If you want to stay at this amazing park but don’t enjoy camping in a tent or trailer, then this is for you. Beware – the solar lighting is pretty dim. If you want to read or play games after dark, you’ll need to bring along supplemental lighting. The shared cook house is steps away, just across the road from the yurts. There’s a wood stove for cooking and secure storage for your food.

It was a full-service site. You can walk into the town of Alma and down to the beach from this campground. There is a Visitor Centre near the East entrance where you can obtain information about the activities at Fundy and the surrounding area attractions. A nice gift shop is located there as well. The best opportunity for kayaking occurs from 2 hours before high tide until 2 hours after, as water levels are high enough for easy beach access. The Hopewell Rocks site also has an interactive visitor centre, a gift shop and a restaurant.
