The Ernest F. Coe Visitor center is located on the right just before the entrance booth, where a fee is collected. The visitor center, free to visit, is open every day of the year, usually from 9 m-5pm, though it may change seasonally.

The visitor center emphasizes educational exhibits, free brochures and restrooms. It also has a book store selling insect repellent but no food.

Check current condtions for any weather-related closures. Except for the marina at Flamingo, there is no place to buy food or drink. Bring your own. The Flamingo Lodge is closed due to storms with no plans to replace it.

Expect limited restroom facilities between Homestead and Flamingo. There is the seasonal Buttonwood Cafe at Flamingo in winter months only. This is a true wilderness, not a theme park.
