There are no services available for several miles. It’s only a 3 hour drive from Vegas. Palm Springsjust 45 minutes-ish away from JTNP also has the Indian Canyons and the San Jacinto State Park at the top of the aerial tramway so you could spend your entire 4 days just in those two cities and have less driving that way. Joshua Tree is actually quite popular over the Thanksgiving weekend so if you are looking for lodging – book it asap.

One turn off is right at Barker Dam – I do NOT recommend that one because the dirt road is a lot longer and there are turn-offs to several other places where you could easily make a wrong turn as there are no signs.

The easy and fast road to get there is the one right by Jumbo Rocks and there Joshua Tree National Park Thanksgiving a sign on the main road that says “Desert Queen Mine”.

Once you get there you’ll know cuz there is a parking area and even a bathroom who knew there’d be a bathroom off a dirt road :- Anyhow, the Desert Queen trail has a fork – one is short and goes to a viewpoint and the other takes you to the mine s….
