The Hadlock carriage road loop is one of my favoritesespecially in the winter when the waterfall is frozen over, with just a little water trickling down behind the ice. A friend who works in the interpretive program at ANP told me last evening that Canon Brook, which drains the southeastern slope of Cadillac, has an impressive cascade. When we returned from the hike, we enjoyed a picnic lunch at the nice picnic area near the parking lot before heading to the Sherman Tree Trail. To get there you park across the road from Sam Nail Ranch and hike up the old Oak Springs Big Bend National Park Waterfalls which is now closed to vehicular traffic. The gate is closed but you are allowed to hike the trail. A little over a mile up this trail you will come to the falls, after dropping down into the canyon with lots of green shrubs, vines and trees. The whole hike is a little over 6 miles round trip, but the end is worth it. Keep your eyes open for wildlife! The gate was locked so we had to walk the 1.

Another hike up 1. Plenty of glowing water which typically only happens 3x a year. Would recommend you take this hike in the early morning if visiting at this time of the year as the afternoon sun can be brutal as you hike the gravel road to the trailhead. Highly recommend you for this trail in your plans while at BBNP.
